Massport Honored For 'Open Door' Policy By New England Minority Contractors

December 19, 2002

The Massachusetts Port Authority has been honored for its 'open door' policy on business opportunities by the New England Chapter of the National Association of Minority Contractors at a recent awards dinner.

"Our members praised Massport's policy and cited construction compliance manager, John Pires, as someone who would 'go the extra mile' to provide information which enables NAMCNE members to compete for the Authority's construction projects," said Michael A. Jefferson, NAMCNE president.

An independent authority, Massport operates a transportation infrastructure network of airports, a seaport and the Tobin Bridge. Construction opportunities include Logan modernization, a more than $4 billion, 10-year construction project to create a state of the art airport, as well as East Boston and South Boston waterfront projects.

In addition to Massport, NAMCNE presented awards to: Senator Diane Wilkerson; Councilor Charles Turner; James E. Rooney, the Mass. Convention Center Authority; Melvin Miller, Bay State Banner; Theodore Webster, Webster Engineering; Peter Koch, Roxbury Community College; Turner Construction Company; Tishman Construction; Clark Construction; J. Cashman Construction; WebCTel, Inc.; NAMC Membership certificates; and Mass Alliance for Small Contractors.
