Massport moves forward with security enhancements at Logan; to begin testing document authentication technology immediately

12/12/2001

The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) announced that Logan International Airport will begin testing BorderGuard document authentication technology this week. The pilot program is part of a partnership with Imaging Automation, a Bedford, New Hampshire company which specializes in identification verification technology. The new system is just one of many new safety and security enhancements implemented at Logan in recent weeks.

Massport wants Logan International Airport to become the benchmark for excellence in aviation safety, said Massport Acting Executive Director and Director of Aviation Thomas J. Kinton, Jr. We are reaching out and developing partnerships with innovative companies like Imaging Automation to test their advanced safety and security technology at Logan. We look forward to adding one more layer to our security system at Logan.

BorderGuard uses pattern and facial recognition technologies to verify both the document and the individual. Additionally, the technology speeds the check-in process and assists operators by automating the process of authenticating identification documents. The system allows for other biometric technologies and federal watchlists to be incorporated, further enhancing Logans overall security.

The BorderGuard installation at Logan Airport will begin immediately. For security reasons, Massport will not disclose the specific locations where Imaging Automations technology will be installed.
