Half-Price Round Trips To and From Logan; Massport slashes fares to encourage public transit

4/7/2000

Massport Executive Director and CEO Virginia Buckingham announced today that fares on round trip Logan Express, Airport Water Shuttle and Logan Direct services will be slashed in half to encourage travelers to get out of their cars and into public transportation during the April school vacation week. The discount program is effective Friday, April 14 through Monday, April 24.
  • The purchase of a round trip Logan Express ticket, normally $14.00, will cost only $7.00. In order to take advantage of the Logan Express discount, passengers must be dropped-off (kiss & ride) at one of the Logan Express sites in Braintree, Framingham or Woburn, where they will receive a coupon for half-off a round trip fare.
  • The Airport Water Shuttle, serving Rowes Wharf in downtown Bostons financial district, has reduced round trip fares from $20.00 to $10.00. The Water Shuttle departs Rowes Wharf for Logan every 15 minutes. Tickets are sold on board the vessel.
  • Logan Direct, serving Hyannis, Sagamore, Plymouth and Rockland, has also cut round trip fares in half. Most trips bypass downtown Boston, utilizing the Ted Williams Tunnel. Daily and weekend schedule and rates vary, but generally hourly service from Cape Cod to Logan is provided.
Buckingham began the discount program this past Thanksgiving and continued to offer reduced fares during the holidays that followed, resulting in increased ridership during the promotional periods. The fare reduction is an incentive for passengers to use one of the many Logan HOV services that reduce congestion in the area and help alleviate the parking crunch at Logan International Airport.

"Massport is working to satisfy both our customers and our neighbors," said Executive Director and CEO Virginia Buckingham. "The half-price discount has been a success during the recent holidays and benefits everyone by offering convenient alternatives that relieve heavy traffic in and around the airport."

The first Logan Express opened in Braintree in 1986 as part of a mitigation agreement made to increase HOV ridership. An additional Logan Express service opened in Framingham later that year and the Woburn Logan Express began in 1993. Massport recently announced plans to site a fourth Logan Express on the North Shore.
