New Director of Aviation Operations
5/12/2000
The Massachusetts Port Authority has chosen aviation veteran Edward C. Freni to fill the number two position at Logan International Airport. Freni comes to the post with more than 20 years of experience in airline management and passenger services. As Director of Aviation Operations, Freni will oversee Massports aviation units, including parking, ground transportation, public information, operations and airport facilities.
"Ed Freni brings more than 20 years of aviation experience to the table. He understands the critical issues facing Logan Airport and will be able to hit the ground running," said Massport Aviation Director Thomas J. Kinton, Jr. "His customer service background is the perfect complement to our operations-oriented management team."
Freni has worked for American Airlines in different capacities since 1979. American currently has 78 daily flights serving 7,000 passengers each day at Logan.
Currently, Freni is General Manager for American Airlines at Logan International Airport, a position he has held since 1996. As General Manager, he is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating all phases of American Airlines ground operations at Logan, including the management of 1,000 employees. Freni also negotiated Americans current $250 million construction improvement program.
Freni was Manager of Passenger Service during Americans $24 million renovation of their space in Terminal B at Logan. Prior to that, Freni was Regional Manager of Flight Services and managed four flight attendant bases and more than 3,000 employees.
"Eds experience in passenger services is a great fit with our customer service initiatives at Logan," said Massport Executive Director and CEO Virginia Buckingham. "His ability to efficiently run a major airport operation while remaining focused on his customers needs will be an asset to Massport and Logans passengers."
Freni replaces former Director of Aviation Operations Kevin Dillon, who left Logan last August to become the airport manager at Manchester Airport in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Freni received a bachelors degree in business from the University of New Hampshire in 1974.
