Massport Welcomes Acela; High-Speed Rail Will Alleviate Travel Headaches to and from Logans #1 Market

12/11/2000

Millions of travelers who have depended on Logan International Airport now have an easy and economical alternative when trekking to New York City, said Massport Executive Director and CEO Virginia Buckingham. High-speed Acela service is aimed at our biggest market and will help reduce congestion in Logans terminals and on the roadways. Today marks another milestone in New Englands collaborative effort to expand and regionalize travel options for consumers.

Last year, 2.4 million passengers traveled between Logan Airport and New York City, comprising 10 percent of Logans 24 million domestic passengers. As part of an ongoing regionalization effort, Massport is now offering flights to New York City from Worcester Regional Airport and Hanscom Field in Bedford. In addition, the state is engaged in an aggressive effort to improve access to Manchester Airport in New Hampshire and T.F. Green Airport in Rhode Island.
