Benefits

Medical Insurance
Coverage begins on the first day of the month following sixty (60) days of employment. Massport currently offers numerous medical plans to its employees:
- Point of Service (POS) Plan - Massport offers a Blue Cross Blue Shield POS plan, Blue Choice. The Commonwealth's Group Insurance Commission (GIC) offers Harvard Pilgrim POS.
- The GIC Indemnity Plans
- Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) - Massport offers major HMOs through the GIC: Neighborhood Health Plan and Fallon Select Care and Direct Care Health Plans.
- Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO) Massport offers Navigator by Tufts, through the GIC.
Medical Opt-Out Program
The Medical Opt-Out Program is offered to encourage employees who have access to alternative medical coverage to be wise consumers of health care. Annually, upon receipt of documentation, employees with alternative coverage may cancel their Massport medical coverage (opt-out) and receive a taxable payment of $2,500 for a full fiscal year, payable in two installments of $1,250.
Dental Insurance
Massport offers several dental plans:
- Basic Option Dental Blue for Administrative Employees- Provided through Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) of Massachusetts, is a preventive and routine maintenance plan. The Basic Option Dental Blue plan is offered at no cost to the employee and covers you and each eligible member for up to $1,000 per year of qualifying dental services. The policy includes services such as root canal therapy and bridge and denture repair, as well as routine diagnostic, preventive, and restorative treatments. When seeing a BCBS participating dentist, covered costs are paid at 100% and there is no balance billing. Reimbursement for the use of a nonparticipating dentist will be at reasonable and customary rates as defined by BCBS.
- High Option Dental Blue for Administrative Employees- Also provided through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, the High Option Dental Blue plan is currently offered at a nominal cost. Employee contributions to the High Option Dental Blue plan are taken on a pre-tax basis under Massport's IRS Code Section 125 Premium Conversion Plan. The plan provides each eligible member for up to $1,500 per year of qualifying dental services. The policy includes the same services as the Basic plan as well as 50% coverage for the making or replacement of dentures, bridges and crowns with participating BCBS dentists. The plan also includes a separate lifetime benefit for orthodontia services (braces) of $1,500. Employees are required to participate for a minimum of two fiscal years upon electing High Option coverage.

Life Insurance
- Basic Life Insurance - Massport provides all employees with a $5,000 Basic Term Life Insurance policy which includes an additional $5,000 of Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage through the GIC.
- Life Insurance - Massport provides administrative employees with group term life insurance equal to two (2) times their annual salary. This plan includes an additional two times salary in Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage.
- $50,000 Life Insurance - Massport provides union employees with a $50,000 Life Insurance Policy. This plan includes an additional $50,000 for Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage.
- Optional Term Life Insurance - You may purchase up to eight times your salary (subject to plan limitations) in Optional Term Life Insurance coverage at rates established by the GIC.
- Dependent Life Insurance - Massport offers an employee pays all Dependent Life Insurance Policy which covers an employee's eligible dependent(s) in the event of their death. An employee's spouse is covered for $10,000. Dependent children from 14 days up to six months of age are covered for $1,000 each. Dependent children from six months of age to age 20 are covered for $5,000 each. Coverage continues for dependents who are full time students up to age 26.
- Travel Accident Insurance - All Massport administrative employees are eligible for Class II protection under Massport's $500,000 Travel Accident Insurance Policy. This policy provides you with insurance coverage while you are traveling on Massport business.
Long Term Disability
Massport offers employees two Long Term Disability (LTD) Plans. These policies are designed to protect you in the event you become totally disabled for a period in excess of ninety consecutive calendar days. Your monthly premium is calculated according to your age and salary:
- The Massport LTD Plan is limited to non-union employees and pays a benefit of 60% of their base salary. This insurance becomes effective on the first day of the month following four full months of employment, subject to pre-existing condition limitations. Massport pays 75% of the monthly premium; you pay the remaining 25%.
- The GIC LTD Plan is available to both union and non-union employees and pays a monthly benefit of 50% of their base salary. This insurance becomes effective on the first day of the month following two full months of employment, subject to pre-existing condition limitations. Employees pay the full monthly premium for this benefit.
Vision Care Plan for administrative employees
This plan is provided by Vision Services Plan (VSP). The plan offers a $135 contact lens allowance (every 12 months) and a $150 retail frame allowance (every 24 months), plus additional discounts and savings. You must use a VSP provider. The plan is fully employee paid, deductions are taken out on a pre-tax basis.
Flexible Spending Accounts Plan
Massport employees are eligible to participate in Massport's Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) Plan. This plan offers two pre-tax accounts under the guidelines of the IRS Code Section 125. Reimbursement. Employee contributions are taken weekly:
- Health Care FSA - Employees participating in the Health Care Account are able to set aside up to $2,500 in an account on a pre-tax basis and then use the account for reimbursements for eligible family medical expenses which were not covered under Massport's medical or dental plans during a calendar year.
- Dependent Care FSA - Employees participating in Dependent Care Account are able to set
aside up to $5,000, subject to IRS rules, in an account on a pre-tax
basis and then use the account for reimbursements of eligible child and
elder care expenses.
Massport Charitable Contribution Program
The Massport Charitable Contribution Program (MCCP) allows employees to make contributions to participating charities during the MCCP Annual Appeal by payroll deduction or as a one time contribution. Contributions to an approved charity, up to a total of $400.00, will be matched at 100%.
Deferred Compensation
All Massport employees may voluntarily participate in the Massachusetts Deferred Compensation SMART Plan. Massport provides a matching contribution on a quarterly basis for administrative employees completing six (6) months of service. Contributions are made on a tax-deferred basis for federal and state tax purposes. Further details on Massport's match can be obtained from the Human Resources Department. Vacation
New non-union employees are eligible to earn up to three weeks vacation. Vacation time does not begin to accrue until you have been employed for ninety full consecutive calendar days and it is posted monthly. Vacation accruals increase with your length of service. Vacation days may be used for any reason, at any time during the calendar year, as long as scheduling is approved in advance by the supervisor.
Union employees should consult their collective bargaining agreement.
Vacation Buyback - Massport offers the unique benefit of allowing employees to receive a portion of their base salary in exchange for accrued vacation. Vacation time may be sold as long as ten vacation days have been used during the calendar year. Employees who do not use at least ten days of vacation time during the calendar year in which they submit their vacation buyback form may not participate in the vacation buyback program the following year.
Sick Leave
Regular full-time non-union employees earn up to 15 days of paid sick leave each year which accrues at the rate of 1.25 days per month for each full month of service at the end of the month. Newly hired non-union employees do not accrue sick time until the completion of three months of employment.

Personal Days
Massport grants its new regular full-time, part-time, and job share administrative employees, personal time, on the first day of employment, as described in the chart below. Any unused personal time is forfeited at the end of the calendar year.

Credit Unions
The Authority provides information on three credit unions: US Alliance Federal Credit Union (formerly IAG Federal Credit Union), Metropolitan Credit Union and the Massachusetts State Employee's Credit Union. In addition, employees can utilize direct deposit to participate in any credit union to which they already belong.
Tuition Reimbursement
The Massport Tuition Reimbursement Policy provides 90% reimbursement of eligible educational costs for courses taken in pursuit of a certificate or degree program, subject to Human Resources Department approval. Courses taken under the Tuition Reimbursement Policy are intended to be covered under the IRS Code Section 127.
Job Related Education - The Massport Job Related Education Policy provides 90% reimbursement of eligible educational costs when a reimbursed course is related to an eligible employee's current job, subject to Human Resources Department approval. Courses taken under the Job Related Education Policy are intended to be covered under the IRS Code Section 132.
The combined annual maximum benefit under Tuition Reimbursement and Job Related Education is $5,000 per calendar year for regular full-time employees and $2,500 for regular part-time employees. Courses must be approved in advance by your Department Head and the Human Resources Department.
Tuition Remission - The tuition remission program is offered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to Massport (and other state) employees attending state colleges and universities. The tuition remission program waives 50% of the tuition for continuing education and 100% of the tuition for a full-time student.
Transportation Assistance
Employees can receive a 50% transportation reimbursement for utilizing public transportation to and from work, up to a maximum of $100 per month. Public transportation includes commuter boat, private bus line service, MBTA passes, and Logan Express ticket. MBTA passes and Logan Express tickets are purchased through payroll deduction.
Employee Assistance Plan
An Employee Assistance Plan is available to all employees and their family members. Up to ten professional counseling sessions are available to assist with matters such as work/life balance, marital, legal, financial, and substance abuse problems.
Child Care and Elder Care Resource and Referral - Massport has arranged for EAP to provide employees with information and referral assistance in finding and evaluating child and elder care services. In addition, the EAP can provide a wide range of information regarding special child care subsidies, tax credits, and resources for special needs children.
